If you've never planned a wedding before, and let's face it, most people haven't, there are an awful lot of things you're somehow expected to know.

And if you're considering a celebrant-led ceremony, there may be even more questions.

How does it actually work?

How many times will we meet? Can we write our own vows? How long will the ceremony last? What happens if it rains? Can we involve our dog? What about the legal bit? Will you be using a microphone?!

These are exactly the sorts of questions couples ask me when we first speak.

And I love them.

Because there really isn't a silly question when it comes to planning your wedding ceremony. This is something you probably haven't done before, and part of my job is making sure you feel completely comfortable with what's going to happen both in the months leading up to your wedding and on the day itself.

So, I've put the answers in one place

My FAQs page brings together the questions I'm asked most often, covering everything from our first meetings and how I write your ceremony to what happens if the British weather has other ideas.

There are sections on:

  • what happens before the wedding
  • what I do on the day
  • the legal bits
  • vows, readings and symbolic rituals
  • practicalities including travel, microphones and insurance
  • what happens after your ceremony

There are also links to some of the resources I regularly share with my couples, including ideas for readings, rituals and wedding planning.

But you don't need to know what to ask

One thing I'd particularly say to couples considering a celebrant is this: you don't need to arrive at our first conversation with a list of questions (although you can, of course!).

You don't even need to know exactly what you want your ceremony to look like.

That's what the process is for.

I'll talk you through the things you need to think about, make suggestions, answer the questions you didn't know you had and help you work out what feels right for the two of you.

Because a celebrant-led ceremony gives you a huge amount of freedom, but that freedom should feel exciting, rather than overwhelming.

So if you're currently wondering "Can we…?", "What happens if…?" or "Is it okay to…?", there's a good chance I've answered it on my FAQs page.

And if I haven't?

Ask me. It might just appear as a new response on my FAQ page.
