Can we talk about those few minutes before the ceremony begins?
The guests are seated. The music is ready.
And then there you are, standing at the end of the aisle.
It's one of my favourite moments of the entire day.
It's the moment where everything suddenly becomes very real. The months — sometimes years — of planning are over. In just a few moments you'll see the person you're about to marry walking towards you.
My job in those few minutes isn't just to wait.
It's to protect that moment.
To gently keep well-meaning family and suppliers from asking one last question.
To hand you a tissue before you realise you need one — and more often than not you do… even if you're not a crier!
To offer a sip of water.
To remind you to breathe.
To make you laugh if that's what's needed, or simply stand quietly beside you if it isn't.
Sometimes you're chatting excitedly. Sometimes you're wiping away happy tears. Sometimes you're completely calm. Every couple is different, and I tune into whatever you need in that moment.
Then, when the music begins…
I give you one last smile.
The doors open.
I give you the nod.
And you see each other.
It's a privilege I'll never stop being grateful for.
Those beautiful, fleeting moments before your ceremony begins are often the ones you'll remember for the rest of your life.
